Carrefour Poland is moving forward to convenience stores

Convenience stores are the future commerce, thinks Marek Lipka, director of supermarkets at Carrefour Poland, who is explaining the new direction that is going to be applied in Poland by the retail giant.
The convenience stores that will be launched by Carrefour Poland are designed to fit the typical office locations and the merchandise will comprise very good quality products and those that are recognizable on the market, but also niche things.
"An office worker will not look for washing powder in such stores, and if he does, he will not expect five types of powders. It's enough for him - one in a box, the other in capsules. We combine the sale of food, non-food products and services. We currently offer - and this is just the beginning - among others click & collect service, that is, the ability to pick up online purchases in stores and the sale of Lotto vouchers, phone top-ups, as well as settling invoices and payment in another currency and cash withdrawal", says Lipka, quoted by Portal Spozywczy.
The concept is similar to the one used in Japanese convenience stores, where you can buy, among others, insurance, tickets for various events, gift voucher, all of these items being well centralized in one tool or one device. Still, Carrefour has high hopes for this initiative that is not meant to replicate the Japanese model.
"I have the impression that we will overcome a certain stage - we will choose a lot more modern solutions and we will not copy everything that was or is in some countries. The customer in Poland is very aware of their decisions because there is a lot of competition. To surprise him, you have to run your concept well. The future of convenience stores is a good concept idea. If someone does not have an idea for the concept of their convenience store, they will lose their efficiency very quickly", added Marek Lipka.
For this year, Carrefour Poland is focused on combining digital solutions with trade and gastronomy, as the convenience stores that are to be open soon will have additional services such as product consulting or an electronic sommelier.
