Polish hunters to receive money if they shoot wild boars

The lack of any efficient solution in handling the ASF outbreaks, that have been present in Poland for the last 4 years, is forcing the Ministry of Agriculture to come out with another idea.
According to the minister of Agriculture, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, the state will support financial aids for hunters who are putting down wild boars.
"We want to apply financial aid that would be attractive to hunters, and at the same time would not burden the budget, it is calculated now, I think it will amount to several hundred zlotys to each shot boar. This may encourage hunters to increase their hunts," said Ardanowski, quoted by Portal Spozywczy.
Ardanowski mentioned that he had a meeting with the hunting district and the management of the Polish Hunting Association to explain the methods of combating ASF as well as the disease itself. "It was a good meeting, long, where I presented my expectations regarding the reduction of wild boars, but also information about what kind of disease is African swine fever. It seems to me that the hunters were not fully aware of the threat to Polish agriculture and the whole economy is carrying this disease", added the minister.
In his opinion, biosecurity alone is not enough, although its compliance is crucial. "We have extended co-financing for biosecurity activities for the whole of Poland, and will reimburse 75% of expenditures incurred, for example, for the purchase of disinfection mats, equipment for disinfection and protective clothing, as well as for protecting buildings where pigs are kept, from animal access " pointed out the head of the Ministry of Agriculture. According to the minister, farmers who are unable to meet the conditions of biosecurity and have one or more pigs should give up their farming in exchange for compensation.
