Alimentaria 2018 was a good opportunity for Spanish meat producers to show their capacities and even small and medium businesses had their place on the show thanks to the Federación Empresarial de Carnes e Industrias Cárnicas (FECIC) presence on the exhibition.
On a stand measuring 1,200 square meters the members of FECIC, including even the small and medium businesses, had their own chance to exhibit their products during the Alimentaria 2018 trade fair. "It's a good opportunity for our companies to show what the sector is doing nowadays for the animal welfare, for the quality and the standards and to show that they are working very hard to be more and more competitive. We believe that Spain is in a good position and we can go further and prove to be better in the near future", declared Pol Moragas Parrado, Deputy Head of FECIC, in an interview for EuroMeatNews.
Meat exports are growing for a few years now and the trend has stabilized looking pretty encouraging for the business in the sector but there are challenges represented by the consumption on the domestic market or inside EU's market where things are not evolving at the same pace, admitted Pol Moragas Parrado. "The consumption in Spain or in Europe is not growing nowadays and we think is not going to grow for the next few years. But we choose to focus on the international markets and we intend to increase this competitiveness between Spain and other countries", added the Deputy Head of FECIC. Spanish pork industry has grown very well in the last few years, with China being one the important markets, but FECIC is targeting also other Asian countries, such as Taiwan or Philippines in the next two years.
