Brazil halts beef exports to China due to "mad cow" disease

Brazil has suspended all beef exports to China after an unusual case of "mad cow" disease (BSE) was reported on a farm in Mato Grosso state.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the decision and explained that such a measure was included in the trade agreement signed in 2015 between the two countries.
Brazilian officials believe that this is a short-time decision until OIE will confirm that there isn't a BSE outbreak in the country. China has become one of the largest beef importers in the world since the ASF situation has gone out of control. The main suppliers of beef for the Chinese market are Brazil, Uruguay, Australia, and New Zealand.
