Spain reports a 53% increase in meat exports to third countries

Last year, Spain's meat exports outside the EU have increased by 53% to reach 2,011,355 tonnes and pork was the main product exported, according to an official report. 1,826,106 tonnes of pork were shipped to third countries, representing an increase of 61% from the previous year. It is followed by meat and poultry preparations, with 82,588 tonnes exported (+ 0.2%); other meats and preparations, with 50,460 tonnes exported (+ 10%); beef, with 31,718 tonnes exported, -20% less than in 2019; and sheep and goat meat , with 15,540 tonnes exported (+ 40%). Regarding the main destinations, the ranking is led by China with 1,439,418 tonnes; followed by Japan, with 114,464 tonnes; the Philippines, with 77,782 tonnes; South Korea, with 59,274 tonnes; Hong Kong, with 49,193 tonnes; South Africa, with 32,806 tonnes; Vietnam, with 18,505 tonnes; Taiwan, with 14,174 tonnes; Benin, with 13,316 tonnes; and Serbia, with 13,165 tonnes.
Also, the European country has open new markets such as New Zealand (goat meat), Argentina (products of animal origin) and has increased the number of establishments allowed to export pork in South Korea and the US.
