Romania’s meat imports have reached ?416 million in the first half of 2018, increasing by 11.6% compared to year-earlier levels, according to Romania’s National Institute of Statistics.
In the same period, Romania exported meat and meat products worth €209.5 million, with the shipments increasing slightly by 2.8% compared to the first half of 2017, still compared with the imports, the exported level was almost two times lower.
Romania imports nearly 230,000 tons of pigs and pork annually worth about 350 million, according to Romania’s Ministry of Agriculture. Meanwhile, the country exports about 4,000 tonnes of meat and pork products.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MADR) data indicates that Romania’s trade deficit in the agri-food has increased by 53% to 853.9 million in 2017 compared to 2016.
