More than 4,000 birds were culled in small farms in a commune in Long An province.
Thousands of birds raised in small farms in Vietnam’s southern Long An province were culled after an H5N1 bird flu outbreak was reported in the area.
The H5N1 virus has recently infected and killed hundreds of chickens and ducks raised by a family, and killed 3,600 ducks raised by another family in Long Son commune, Can Duoc district, according to Chinese agency Xinhua.net.
Local relevant agencies have culled sick poultry, isolated and disinfected areas hit by the disease, tightened control of fowl transport in the affected areas and nearby ones, and intensified bird flu vaccination among flocks of chickens and ducks, the department said. Vietnam has detected no new human cases of H5N1 infection since 2014, according to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
