Vietnam’s tuna exports to South Korea up 17% in the first seven months

South Korea’s tuna imports increased from 7,645 MT to 16,134 MT in recent years, according to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

South Korea currently imported tuna from more than 42 countries around the world. Kiribati, China, Taiwan, Italy, Turkey, Spain, France, Vanuatu, Thailand and Vietnam were the top 12 tuna suppliers to the market, accounting for 86 % of total tuna imports of this country.

According to Vietnam customs statistics, in the first seven months of this year, Vietnam’s tuna exports to South Korea rose by 17% to hit US$989 million. Vietnamese exports of tuna products to this market all recorded positive rise.

VASEP said, in the coming time, Vietnam is expected to boost exports of fresh and frozen tuna to South Korea thanks to favorable conditions.
