The Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Community (BMELH) has awarded EDEKA Südwest Fleisch GmbH from Rheinstetten the Federal Honorary Prize – the highest honor in the German food industry – for quality and sustainability in food production.
In the “Large Companies” category, EDEKA Südwest Fleisch received the only Federal Honorary Prize for meat and meat products, awarded in silver. This marks the 15th time the company has received this award. Federal Minister Alois Rainer presented the certificate and medal together with Hubertus Paetow, President of the DLG (German Agricultural Society), at a ceremony in Berlin.
Federal Minister Alois Rainer honored the award winners and said: “From my own professional experience, I know that consumers appreciate good quality. With our awards, we make this high quality visible to everyone. In doing so, we strengthen the meat industry in Germany, which stands for enjoyment, tradition, and regionality. My heartfelt congratulations to all the award winners.”
Award criteria for meat and meat products
The Federal Honorary Awards for Quality and Sustainability were presented this year to eight companies in the German meat industry. Within the categories for small, medium-sized, and large companies, a maximum of one Federal Honorary Award in gold and one in silver are awarded, with the remaining awards given in bronze. The products of the Federal Honorary Award winners must have achieved a gold rating in the DLG quality tests within the last two years. In addition, depending on their company size, the Federal Honorary Award winners must meet further mandatory and optional sustainability criteria, such as pig farming practices at least at level 2, energy management, resource-efficient production, and other ecological criteria.
EDEKA Südwest Fleisch received the award for the 15th consecutive time.
