Norwegian cod farming company Ode is boosting the distribution of farmed cod in the domestic market, marking a new development in the commercial farmed cod industry. From September 2026, Ode’s fresh, never-frozen cod products will be available in more than 200 retail stores across Norway.
Two new products, cod loin and cod burger, were developed under the Ode Brands brand. The cod loin is skinless and boneless, portioned in 200–300g servings; while the burger contains 99% cod meat, with no fillers or other fish species used. The company also introduced additional sauces to diversify its ready-to-eat product range.
Previously, most of Ode’s cod was exported to Europe, the US, and Asia. Meanwhile, the Norwegian retail market relied primarily on seasonal wild-caught cod and frozen products during periods of reduced supply. Ode stated that building a value chain from breeding and farming to processing has enabled the company to provide a stable supply of fresh cod year-round.
This move comes after Ode recorded positive business results. In 2025, the company’s revenue reached 877 million NOK, an increase of 118.7% compared to the previous year; the harvest volume reached 10,018 tonnes, an increase of 110%, accounting for approximately 65% of Norway’s total farmed cod production.
Ode is also investing in deep-water cod farming technology and developing additional value-added products. The company expects farmed cod to gradually become a stable year-round supply for the Norwegian market, similar to the development of the farmed salmon industry.
