The Chinese authorities have recently announced that the ban on Italian beef imports has been removed after over 16 years, China’s Ministry of Agriculture and the quality control authority have announced.
Italy will be able to export beef once again on the Chinese market after a protocol for health and safety requirements will be approved between the two countries.
Beijing banned imported beef from Italy in 2001, citing safety concerns.
The good news comes after a Chinese delegation visited Italy in September to verify the health protection offered by the Italian food system.
The Chinese authorities also announced the lifting of a ban on Italian bovine semen which was imposed in 2012 due to the Schallenberg virus.
