INTERPORC: “The success of the Los Pedroches Rural Olympics is a perfect example of the dynamism of rural areas”

The Interprofessional Agri-food Association for White Pigs ( INTERPORC ) has highlighted the success of the XVII Rural Olympics of Los Pedroches as a demonstration of the dynamism, organizational capacity and potential of rural municipalities.

The event, sponsored by the Interprofessional Association, among others, was held in Añora (Cordoba) with a record attendance that reaffirms it as one of the most representative events of the Spanish rural environment.

Over three days (July 3-5), nearly a thousand participants, divided into 48 teams, competed in 16 events inspired by traditional games that are part of the rural cultural heritage. Around 3,000 people also watched the various competitions, which included games such as stick fighting, the queen’s chair, rope jumping, and wheelbarrow races, among others.

These figures have led INTERPORC’s CEO, Alberto Herranz, to point out that “the popular success of these Olympics demonstrates that rural areas are full of initiative, talent and the ability to organize projects that generate activity, attract thousands of people and strengthen the feeling of belonging to our villages.”

INTERPORC has participated for the second consecutive year as a sponsor of this initiative, which has become a showcase of the values that identify the rural environment, such as cooperation, shared effort, participation and rootedness to the territory.

In this regard, Herranz added that “the white pig sector shares these same values because it carries out a large part of its activity in rural areas, where it generates employment, boosts the local economy, and helps to retain the population. Therefore, supporting initiatives like the Los Pedroches Rural Olympics is part of a commitment to the present and future of our villages.”
