Japan has lifted a ban for Polish eggs and poultry, allowing the products to renter the Asian market. The ban was placed in January this year when several large farms in Poland have been hit by bird flu outbreaks. In June, a similar decision was announced by Singapore, Armenia and Hong Kong, reports The First News magazine in Poland. “Thanks to the efforts of Poland’s chief veterinarian and the Polish diplomatic mission in Tokyo, Japan’s services announced on July 30, 2020, that Japan has lifted import limitations introduced due to the existence of bird flu (HPAI) in Poland,” said a press release from the Chief Veterinary Office in Poland.
Poland is the sixth biggest egg producer in the European Union. Poland’s annual egg production is estimated at 570,000 tonnes. Around 65-70% of the entire output is sold in Poland and the remaining part is exported. The coronavirus epidemic combined with the HPAI problem has reduced Poland’s poultry exports. In March 2020, poultry sales abroad went down by 12% year on year.
