Provacuno presents at SIAL Paris 2026 the progress of its campaign ‘The special mission of cattle’

The Spanish Beef Interprofessional Organization, Provacuno, is participating in the SIAL Paris 2026 trade fair, which is being held at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Park until October 21, with a stand (6E170) in which it offers visitors information about the campaign “For a sustainable Europe, the special mission of beef”, co-financed by the European Union and led together with Apaq-W (Belgium).

A campaign with significant technological contributions as well

The presence at SIAL Paris, a trade fair with over 8,000 exhibiting companies from more than 130 countries showcasing the latest technical and technological advances in the food industry, is the ideal setting to explain the campaign’s content and tools to attendees. These tools include Provacuno’s Codes of Good Environmental Practices and Sustainable Beef Footprint, a web app designed to calculate the carbon footprint of the beef sector. Developed as part of this campaign, it allows for the rigorous quantification of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, throughout the entire value chain, from the livestock to the industrial phase.

Talks and showcookings related to the sustainability of the sector

At the Provacuno stand, two talks will also be offered by two experts related to sustainability.

On the one hand, Xabier Díaz de Otálora Aguirre, researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and expert in beef cattle sustainability, will explain to attendees the contents of the campaign “The special mission of beef cattle”, as well as the scientific advances in sustainability and the different tools available for the sector to apply measures to ensure the reduction of emissions and the prevention of soil degradation and improvement in their daily work.

For his part, Michelin Green Star chef Miguel Ángel de la Cruz is conducting several showcookings during the event to demonstrate the versatility and different sustainable uses of European beef to visitors of the stand.

Symposium on the Sustainability of European Beef Cattle

The campaign “For a Sustainable Europe, the Special Mission of Beef” is part of the Sustainable European Beef (SEUB) Promotion Plan, a three-year initiative (2025-2027) co-financed with European funds, developed by Provacuno in collaboration with APAQ-W, with a dual objective. For the sector, the program aims to support Spanish and Belgian producers in their sustainable adaptation with tools based on scientific rigor, such as Codes of Good Practice and new technological developments like the new Sustainable Beef Footprint web app. For society, the intention is to increase awareness of the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the European beef production model.

One of the highlights of the campaign’s first year was the holding of the 1st Symposium on the Sustainability of European Beef Cattle in November 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. Provacuno will take advantage of its presence at SIAL to inform the sector about the second edition of this symposium, to be held in Madrid in October 2027, although, as in 2025, it will also be available via live stream.

This event will bring together European institutional representatives, sustainability experts, producers, industry associations, and specialized media to analyze the current and future challenges facing the beef sector in Europe, exchange best practices, and foster debate on the key role of livestock farming in achieving the EU’s climate and sustainability goals, particularly regarding emissions reduction and soil preservation and improvement. It will also serve as an opportunity to review the past three years of the campaign.

Seminar at the UniLaSalle of Rouen

Another key aspect of the SEUB program is the organization of seminars at universities, designed as spaces for meeting, exchanging ideas, and transferring knowledge between the beef cattle sector, the scientific community, and new generations. With the participation of researchers and specialists in sustainability and climate change, these meetings allow for a deeper exploration of the sector’s main environmental challenges, addressing issues such as emissions reduction, soil conservation and improvement, and the role of research and innovation in advancing toward more sustainable production models.

Following the seminars held this year at the universities of Zaragoza, León, Salamanca and Córdoba, the program continues to expand its reach with an international meeting scheduled for October 21 at the UniLaSalle campus in Rouen (France), which will be joined by two other meetings in Spain: Murcia, on October 27, and Navarra, on November 3.
