A new debate is coming to Great Britain as the farmers are showing concern about the vegans gaining momentum among the local population.
Farmers from across the kingdom have joined the Oxford Farmers Conference debate dedicated to the consumer’s habits over the next decades.
120 of the participants believe that meat will be a thing of the past in British households by 2100 while 276 farmers consider that consumers will still prefer meat over vegan food or other substitutes, Oxford Farmers Conference blog reports.
Some of the speakers hope that the industry will not register a shock as the vegan movement recorded an increase of 360% in the past decade among British consumers. Gareth Wyn Jones, a welsh farmer, who spoke during the debate expressed his confidence in meat consumption in the future although the volume may suffer a considerable decrease. The UK is a world-class producer of lamb and beef but veganism is modifying the alimentary habits of a big part of the local population.
