INTERPORC celebrates the selection of Spain as the host country for IPVS & ESPHM 2028

The Spanish Interprofessional Association for White Pigs ( INTERPORC ) celebrates the selection of Spain to host the International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS) and the European Symposium of Porcine Health Management (ESPHM) in Madrid from June 20-23, 2028. These are two of the leading events for researchers, veterinarians, professionals, and companies linked to the pig sector .

The designation, announced during the IPVS 2026 that took place in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), represents an important recognition of the relevance and leadership of the Spanish pork sector in the world.

The Interprofessional Association has played a key role from the very beginning, participating decisively as the main partner of the candidacy led by the Association of Scientific Pig Farming (ANAPORC), to achieve, through the joint work of the entire pig sector, the celebration of the event in Spain.

INTERPORC’s CEO, Alberto Herranz, stated that “Spain’s selection is the result of months of joint work and demonstrates the international recognition that the Spanish pork sector has achieved thanks to its commitment to innovation, sustainability, animal health and professional excellence.”

For his part, Juan Grandía, president of ANAPORC, stated that “hosting the prestigious IPVS World Congress four decades later is a historic milestone made possible by an unprecedented unity of the entire sector, whose strength and cohesion were decisive in winning the bid. This unique opportunity consolidates the leadership, talent, and excellence of our pork industry on an international level.”

This idea is echoed by Miguel Ángel Higuera, general director of the National Association of Pig Producers (ANPROGAPOR), who emphasized that “it is an honor to host and organize the most important congress of pig veterinarians in the world. This challenge also carries a great responsibility, which requires the involvement of everyone to strengthen and project Spain’s brand image.”

Future challenges

Under the slogan ‘Sustainability and One Health: the swine way forward’, the congress will bring together researchers, veterinarians, producers, companies, universities and experts from around the world in Madrid to address the main challenges and advances related to animal health, sustainability, innovation and the One Health approach.

The candidacy, led by ANAPORC, has the support of a wide range of representative entities of the Spanish pig sector, including ASICI, ANPROGAPOR, ANAVEPOR, ANVEPI, ARAPORC, FEPORCYL, VETERINDUSTRIA, ACNV, ANICE, I+PORC, INNOVACC, PORCAT, UAB, CDVE, University of Zaragoza, Alfonso X el Sabio University, University of Córdoba and CEU Cardenal Herrera.

The IPVS & ESPHM 2028 event in Madrid will allow Spain to showcase to the international scientific and professional community the high level achieved by Spanish pig farming, a leading producer in the European Union and one of the world’s main exporters, as well as reinforcing Spain’s position as a center of reference for the exchange of knowledge, research and innovation in animal health and production.
