The Argentine goat meat industry is experiencing a very favorable period, with simultaneous progress in production, processing, and exports. In the period from January to July 2016, exports of goat meat registered a year-on-year increase of 186% in volume and 68% in value per ton shipped.
The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGyP) reported that during the first seven months of the year, shipments abroad showed a year-on-year increase in foreign currency income that exceeded 380%, equivalent to 715,000 dollars.
The data corresponds to the analysis carried out by the National Directorate of Livestock Production, based on information gathered from SENASA, INDEC and Customs.
According to SAGyP, this evolution of exports is supported by an improvement in the main productive indicators of the activity: the slaughter of goat heads increased by 18.4%, and the production of tons of carcass with bone grew by 37.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
Currently, the Argentine goat stock is 4,019,232 animals, concentrated in the provinces of Neuquén, Mendoza, Santiago del Estero, Chaco and Salta, in descending order.
Goat meat exports are mainly destined for the Middle East , where Saudi Arabia accounts for 36%; Oman, 28% and Sri Lanka, Qatar, Bahamas and Kuwait, the rest.
“The growth in the volumes produced and exported, along with the improvement in the values obtained, constitutes a positive sign for the strengthening of the activity and opens new opportunities for its development,” highlighted the SAGyP.
