Chile: Sheep meat processing decreased by more than 13 percent in twelve months

In the second quarter of 2026, beef carcass production decreased by 7.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, registering 48,095 tons (t) nationwide. Meanwhile, the number of cattle entering the slaughter and processing facility for human consumption in the country was 179,990 head, representing a year-on-year decrease of 10.0%, according to information provided by the Fairs and Slaughterhouses bulletin, published this morning by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In the pig sector, meanwhile, a number of 1,379,515 head was recorded, with an increase of 1.0% in relation to the second quarter of the previous year and a meat production on the carcass of 147,619 t.

In sheep, 116,453 head of livestock were processed, with a year-on-year decrease of 13.4% and a meat production on the carcass of 1,885 t, showing a decrease of 14.7% over twelve months. 

In the April-June quarter of 2026, broiler production decreased by 5.1% compared to the same period of the previous year, presenting 69,761,168 benefits at the country level, equivalent to 171,723 t.

In turkeys, 204,425 units were processed in the reference quarter, with an increase of 21.9%, equivalent to 2,035 tons, which implied an increase of 15.5% for production, compared to the same period in 2025.
