The Chinese authorities have removed antidumping and antisubsidy duties on US broilers. Although the decision was welcomed by the US industry, still experts say that this will not represent a significant change because the Chinese market is still closed to US poultry and egg shipments due to the ban imposed by the authorities from China three years ago.
The duties on US broilers were first introduced in 2010. China took the decision to drop them, after the World Organization required this from the Asian country in January, according to Feedstuffs.
USA Poultry & Egg Export Council president Jim Sumner said in a statement that WTO’s ruling and China’s decision to remove the duties are very positive signs. “We are especially appreciative of the U.S. Trade Representative’s relentless effort during many years of hearings and appeals before the WTO, which ultimately allowed the U.S. to prevail,” Mr. Sumner said, as reported by Feedstuffs.
