The ban is to stay in force until the summer of 2022, as meat processing units complained about the scarcity of livestock supplies in the country.
Kazakhstan decided to place a ban on livestock exports, targeting cattle and small ruminants. The country’s government aims to stabilize prices in the domestic meat market, as a 15% increase in beef prices has been reported in the first 10 months of the year.
Meat processors have also complained about low levels of loading in slaughterhouses (50%) and the volume processed for the first 10 months of 2021 stood at 173,000 tonnes, representing just 18% of the livestock output.
