South Korea has reported an increase in its livestock numbers in the second quarter of 2018 compared to year-earlier levels on the account of more calves being bred, Yonhap News Agency reports.
South Korea’s statistical institute said the country had 3.06 million cattle by the end of June, an increase of 1% to 31,000 head compared to the corresponding period from 2017.
In the case of pigs, the number rose by 1% year-over-year at the end of the sixth month of this year to 11.3 million head.
The growth in cattle numbers was put on the account of more calves being bred.
Farmers had more cattle and sows to bred as the demand for beef and beef products reported a higher level.
