Pig Farmer’s Day celebrates the leading role of those who drive a sector worth R$63.1 billion

In 2025, Brazil produced 5,592 million tons of pork and exported 1,510 million tons to 94 countries.

Celebrated on July 24, National Pig Farmer’s Day highlights the leading role of producers who, daily, sustain the evolution of one of the most competitive chains in Brazilian agribusiness.

In 2025, Brazilian pork production reached 5,592 million tons, consolidating the country as the fourth largest producer in the world. The Gross Production Value (VBP) of the sector reached R$63.1 billion, boosting regional economies, generating income and driving a broad chain made up of grain producers, genetics, animal nutrition and health companies, transporters, cooperatives, agribusinesses and other segments.

The international presence also gained strength. Last year, Brazil exported 1,510 million tons of pork to 94 countries, generating foreign exchange revenue of US$3.6 billion. With this performance, the country maintained its position as the third largest exporter in the world. Of the total produced, 27.01% was destined for the foreign market.

At the same time, the Brazilian market remained the main destination for national production. Per capita consumption reached 19.1 kilograms per inhabitant in 2025, reflecting the growing presence of pork on Brazilian tables and the expansion of the variety of cuts and products available in retail and out-of-home dining.

According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), these results begin on rural properties. It is the pig farmers who transform advances in genetics, nutrition, management, health, biosecurity, animal welfare, and sustainability into effective gains in productivity, quality, and food safety.

“Every ton produced, every market conquered, and every advance achieved by Brazilian pig farming begins with the work of the producer. It is within the farms that the sector’s commitments to health, efficiency, quality, and sustainability are put into practice. The pig farmer is the main protagonist of a chain that generates development for Brazil and helps guarantee food security for Brazilian consumers and those in dozens of other countries,” emphasizes Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.

Present in different production models, whether integrated, cooperative or independent, pig farmers also play a decisive role in generating opportunities in the interior of the country. The activity strengthens municipalities, maintains income in communities and stimulates investments in technology, infrastructure and professional training.

“The competitiveness of Brazilian pig farming was not built by chance. It is the result of the adaptability, investment, and dedication of thousands of producers. Celebrating Pig Farmer’s Day is to recognize those who are at the base of a sector that moves billions, supplies the domestic market, and takes the quality of Brazilian animal protein to the world,” concludes Santin.
