UK pork exports declined by 15% in December compared to year-earlier levels, reaching 16,100 tonnes, according to the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
AHDB analyst Felicity Rusk said that although there was an increase in shipments to China and the Netherlands, this growth was offset by the decline in pork exports to Denmark and Hong Kong.
The exports of variety meats was up 10% in December, the growth was mostly based on the increased demand from China.
Meanwhile, UK’s exports of fresh/frozen pork increased by only 1% in December compared to a year ago, reaching 217,700 tonnes.
Rusk explained that this growth was not enough to compensate for lower prices, and so value actually declined by 1%, to £292 million.
Overall, the exports of pig meat and offal increased by 4%, totaling 346,500 tonnes.
