Under the title “How can the new CAP revitalize the livestock sector in the EU and what mistakes should be avoided?” , the event will take place from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on October 8, and will bring together representatives of European institutions, policymakers, experts and professionals from the sector.
The opening will be carried out by the co-presidents of the Sustainable Livestock Intergroup , MEPs Maria Grapini, Alexander Bernhuber and Benoît Cassart .
The CAP and its impact on livestock farming
The European Commission will be represented by Pierre Bascou, from the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) , who will address the Common Agricultural Policy and its role in the future of European agriculture and livestock farming.
The program will also include a presentation by Professor Thia Hennessy of University College Cork , who will analyze the role of the CAP and its impact on the livestock sector .
For his part, Pietro Baldrighi, an Italian dairy farmer , will focus his speech on the importance of the second pillar of the CAP to promote investment in livestock farms .
The territorial dimension of European agricultural policy will be addressed by Marie-Sophie Lesne, Vice-President of the Hauts-de-France Region, and Laurent Degenne, President of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture , who will analyze how the CAP can benefit European regions.
The day will be completed with an exchange of opinions with MEPs , before the closing by Benoît Cassart , co-president of the Sustainable Livestock Intergroup.
The meeting thus places the debate on the role of livestock farming in the future CAP, the investment needs of farms and the importance of agricultural policy responding to the economic and territorial reality of the sector in the European Parliament .
