The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the signing of a Reciprocal Trade Agreement between the United States and Taiwan that includes major advances in market access for U.S. red meat.
“The Reciprocal Trade Agreement with Taiwan will eliminate tariff and non-tariff barriers to U.S. exports to Taiwan, expanding opportunities for American farmers, ranchers, fishers, workers, small businesses, and manufacturers,” said Ambassador Jamieson Greer. “This agreement also strengthens our long-standing economic and trade relationship with Taiwan and will significantly enhance the resilience of our supply chains, particularly in high-tech sectors.”
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins praised the agreement, saying it will open up real markets and expand opportunities for rural communities.
The National Cattlemen’s Association (NCBA) says this agreement will strengthen one of the most important and fastest-growing markets for U.S. beef, as Taiwan is the fifth largest market for U.S. beef with exports valued at approximately $650 million, and the United States is the largest supplier of beef to Taiwan.
“There is still potential for additional growth with greater access to all U.S. beef products, including those in high demand for yakiniku barbecue and modern hamburgers,” the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) stated. “Eliminating tariffs on U.S. beef will undoubtedly improve our competitiveness.”
