Spanish industrial production of animal feed exceeds 30.8 million tons

The Spanish Confederation of Compound Feed Manufacturers for Animals (CESFAC) presented recently, within the framework of its General Assembly, a new edition of Markets and Statistics 2025, the reference publication that includes the main economic and productive indicators of the animal feed sector in Spain.

According to the report’s estimates, Spanish industrial production of compound animal feed reached 30,817,705 tons in 2025. However, CESFAC warns that this figure is not directly comparable with previous years, as the National Statistics Institute (INE) has updated its calculation methodology in accordance with European statistical regulations, incorporating a greater number of products within the industrial animal feed category.

For reference, total animal feed production in Spain reached 38,811,965 tons in 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. This figure includes both industrial manufacturing and production for self-consumption on livestock farms, reflecting the strategic importance of the sector to the agri-food chain.

By species, swine remains the primary destination for industrial production, with 13.37 million tons, representing nearly 45% of the total . This is followed by feed for cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and rabbits, with over 10.5 million tons (34%), while poultry accounts for 5.64 million tons (17%). Pet food exceeds one million tons, and feed for fish and marine animals is around 160,000 tons.

The president of CESFAC, Fernando Antúnez, emphasized that animal feed is “a strategic link for the entire agri-food chain” and stressed that the sector remains committed to supplying safe, efficient, and top-quality products. He also stated that companies continue to adapt to a context marked by regulatory changes, geopolitical uncertainty, and new market demands in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Spanish livestock farming.

The publication also highlights the importance of an industry that supplies all livestock production in the country and that maintains its commitment to innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement as pillars to face the challenges of the future.
