The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) positively received the publication of the European Commission’s final report on the audit conducted in Brazil on the poultry and honey supply chains. The document considers that the official Brazilian system is capable of offering the guarantees required by European regulations regarding the use of antimicrobials.
According to ABPA, the result recognizes the work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the State Official Services, especially the performance of their teams in structuring procedures, training inspectors, carrying out official controls, and presenting the evidence requested during the European mission. The organization also highlights the technical dialogue maintained by Mapa with the European Union authorities throughout the process.
“The report is an important recognition of the serious and consistent work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the State Secretariats and their professionals, together with the Brazilian production chain. The favorable assessment demonstrates the capacity of our official system to offer the guarantees required by the European Union and represents a concrete step forward for the resumption of poultry meat exports,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
The publication of the report, however, does not yet authorize the resumption of shipments. Brazil’s reinstatement on the list of suppliers depends on the completion of European regulatory steps. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) is awaiting consideration of the matter by the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCOPAFF), at a meeting to be scheduled by European authorities.
ABPA will continue to monitor the process in coordination with MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply), the State Official Services and the productive sector, with the expectation that a favorable technical evaluation will allow progress towards a decision on the resumption of trade.
