ChilePork strengthens its presence in Southeast Asia and projects new business opportunities

Under the slogan “Choose Chile, Choose ChilePork,” the industry brand brought together 91 representatives from importing companies in the Philippines and Vietnam, two markets with a combined population of over 217 million. In meetings led by the Chilean ambassadors to both countries, the activities combined trade promotion, gastronomy, and strategic networking to consolidate existing markets and prepare new opportunities for the Chilean pork sector.

Consolidating Chile’s presence in existing export markets and paving the way for access to new destinations are two key objectives of the Chilean pork sector’s internationalization strategy. The Philippines and Vietnam have a combined population of over 217 million, and while they share the importance of pork in their culinary cultures, they have their own distinct traditions and consumption preferences. In this context, ChilePork recently conducted another promotional tour of both countries, two markets offering complementary opportunities for Chilean exports: while the Philippines is already a significant destination for Chilean pork, Vietnam represents an opportunity for expansion once sanitary access is granted.

The activities, organized by ChileCarne through its sector brand ChilePork, with the support of ProChile, brought together 91 representatives from importing companies: 54 in Manila and 37 in Ho Chi Minh City. Both meetings were led by the Chilean Ambassador to the Philippines, Felipe Díaz, and the Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam, Nasly Bernal, respectively. Also participating in Vietnam were the Chilean Agricultural Attaché, Rosaura Campusano, and ProChile trade representatives, highlighting the collaborative work between the public and private sectors to boost the presence of Chilean food products in international markets.

Choose Chile, Choose ChilePork: four attributes that distinguish the Chilean offering

One of the main messages of the tour was “Choose Chile, Choose ChilePork”, a concept that reflects ChileCarne’s adherence to the Choose Chile international promotion strategy and reinforces the positioning of ChilePork as a sector brand backed by Chile’s attributes as an exporting country.

During the presentations, ChilePork unveiled its value proposition, structured around the 4 Cs: Trust, Compliance, Capacity, and Consistency. These attributes encapsulate the sector’s commitment to building long-term business relationships, adhering to stringent health and safety standards, adapting products, cuts, and formats to the needs of each market, and delivering consistent quality and supply.

“We want importers to find much more in ChilePork than just a pork supplier. We aim to be reliable business partners, capable of understanding their needs and building long-term relationships. The Philippines is a market where we are already growing, and Vietnam represents a great opportunity that we hope to realize soon. That is the meaning behind our invitation: Choose Chile, Choose ChilePork,” highlighted Pía Barros, Communications, Marketing, Research, and Administration Manager at ChileCarne.

Philippines: Export growth and consolidated trade relations

The tour began in Manila, where ChilePork held its fifth promotional activity in the Philippines on October 22nd, continuing a positioning and business development strategy aimed at strengthening ties with local importers and expanding opportunities for Chilean pork. This trajectory reflects the brand’s sustained work in a large-scale market, where building business relationships and understanding buyer needs are fundamental to consolidating its export presence.

The meeting took place at the Grand Hyatt Manila and brought together 54 representatives of importing companies, along with representatives from 100% of the participating Chilean pork exporting companies: AASA, Agrosuper, Coexca and Maxagro.

Since the market opened in 2020, Chilean pork exports to the Philippines have shown positive growth. In 2025, they reached approximately 6,700 tons valued at US$7.3 million, while during the period January–August 2026, they registered increases of 68% in volume and 91% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.

As of August 2026, pork already represented about 12% of the total value of Chilean exports to the Philippines, positioning itself as the second most exported Chilean food to that destination, after salmon.

These results demonstrate the growing importance of the Philippines to the national pork sector and support the importance of continuing to strengthen ties with importers and trading partners in a market that offers room for further growth.

Vietnam: one step closer to finalizing the health reopening

From Manila, the agenda continued in Ho Chi Minh City, where ChilePork held its second promotional meeting in Vietnam on October 26, following a first activity held in Hanoi in 2025.

The event, held at the Caravelle Saigon hotel, brought together 37 representatives of Vietnamese importing companies, who were able to learn about the Chilean offering and explore supply possibilities in anticipation of the future opening of the market.

With over 100 million inhabitants, Vietnam is Chile’s main trading partner in Southeast Asia and is a destination of interest for diversifying the export markets of Chilean pork.

While both countries share the potential offered by a large population, their opportunities for Chile are at different stages. Unlike the Philippines, where Chilean exports are already showing a growth trajectory, in Vietnam the priority is to advance the development of trade relations that will allow them to capitalize on opportunities once sanitary authorization for the entry of these products is formalized.

The process is in its final stage. Following the audit conducted by Vietnamese authorities on the Chilean pork production system in December 2024 and the technical work carried out between the two countries, the health certificates have already been approved and only their signatures are needed to formalize the import authorization.

In this context, the visit of the President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, to Vietnam, scheduled for November 16, represents an opportunity to advance pending negotiations. The delegation will include Juan Carlos Domínguez, president of ChileCarne, who will support the efforts aimed at securing sanitary approval for the market.

In addition, there are the favorable tariff conditions offered by the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP): the main categories of Chilean frozen pork have a 0% tariff, which contributes to the competitiveness of the national supply.

Thus, ChilePork seeks to anticipate the opening of the market, generating links with potential buyers and publicizing the characteristics of the Chilean sector before the authorization to export is finalized.

A gastronomic experience with the flavors of Chile

The gastronomic experience was another focus of both meetings, with menus designed to highlight the quality and versatility of Chilean pork, as well as its ability to integrate into different culinary traditions.

The proposal also included other emblematic products of the national food offer, such as Chilean salmon in the first course, dulce de leche in the desserts and a selection of Chilean wines to accompany the preparations.

In this way, the guests participated in an experience that combined gastronomy, identity of origin and commercial promotion, bringing the diversity of Chilean foods closer to importers from both markets and showing the possibilities of adapting the national offer to their preferences.

A long-term strategy for growth in Asia

Chile is the world’s sixth largest exporter of pork. In 2025, the industry produced approximately 590,000 tons, of which roughly 328,000 tons were destined for international markets, for a value of approximately US$698 million.

Since 2006, ChilePork has been working on the international promotion of the sector, highlighting the attributes of an industry recognized for its sanitary heritage, safety, traceability, productive capacity and adaptation to the needs of its clients.

The meetings in Manila and Ho Chi Minh City reflect the complementarity of this strategy: deepening the presence in markets where Chile already has an export track record and, at the same time, building the necessary trade relationships to take advantage of new destinations.

Choose Chile, Choose ChilePork: an invitation to choose quality, trust and a business partner to grow together.
