INTERPORC places health, food safety and internationalization at the heart of the debate on Spanish pork

INTERPORC has placed animal health, food safety and internationalization at the center of the debate on the future of Spanish pork during the XLV ANAPORC Congress, which was held in Tarragona.

Within this framework, INTERPORC has organized the round table “The role of veterinarians in livestock health and food safety: a successful model for internationalization”, moderated by Daniel de Miguel, Deputy Director and International Director of INTERPORC, with the participation of Carmen González, Deputy Director General of Sanitary Agreements and Border Control of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Ignasi Pons, Director General of FECIC; and Antonio Jové, Director of Institutional Relations of Olot Meats Group.

The meeting highlighted the close relationship between animal health, food safety, professionalization and internationalization, as well as the fundamental role of veterinarians in preserving market confidence and facilitating access for Spanish products to international destinations.

Daniel de Miguel emphasized that “animal health is a collective asset that we must all protect.” Along the same lines, Carmen González highlighted the role of farm veterinarians, animal health inspections, and regionalization as key tools for strengthening biosecurity, protecting animal health status, and maintaining the confidence of international markets.

For his part, Ignasi Pons emphasized the importance of veterinarians and food safety and quality departments in ensuring compliance with the health and commercial requirements of foreign markets. Antonio Jové highlighted market diversification, maintaining sanitary status, and improving business efficiency as future challenges.

A sector prepared for a new international stage

During the opening of the Congress, the Catalan Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food highlighted that the pork sector is “one of the most efficient sectors in the world” and emphasized its capacity to face challenges such as African Swine Fever (ASF). He also noted that Catalonia is in the final phase of the ASF outbreak in wild boar and that more than €100 million has been allocated to its eradication.

Within the framework of the Congress, INTERPORC has also presented its new campaign “Proud of what is ours”, an initiative that has just begun its journey with the launch of the spot that will articulate the campaign and that seeks to highlight the economic, social and territorial importance of the Spanish pork sector.
