Boeser Frischfleisch GmbH took over the operation of the Vion slaughterhouse in Crailsheim, Baden-Württemberg, on September 28, 2026. The site, with approximately 600 employees, will continue to operate as a slaughtering and processing plant for pigs and cattle.
With this acquisition, Boeser Frischfleisch is re-entering the slaughtering business itself. The company, which previously specialized primarily in the coarse and fine processing of pork, is simultaneously expanding its business to include beef and securing its own raw material base. The acquisition increases the workforce to approximately 950 employees at three locations. Boeser projects a turnover of nearly €210 million for 2025.
For farmers in the region, the change of ownership initially means continuity: Boeser intends to maintain existing supply relationships with farmers, producer groups, livestock traders, and customers. No changes are planned for deliveries either. The slaughterhouse processes approximately one million pigs and about 95,000 cattle annually.
The acquisition is part of the strategic realignment of the Vion Food Group, which is focusing more strongly on the Benelux region. The German Federal Cartel Office had prohibited the originally planned purchase by the Premium Food Group in 2025 for competition reasons. Westfleisch had also expressed interest in the interim. Finally, the sale to Boeser was agreed upon in April 2026. The closing was subsequently delayed due to pending approvals. The Federal Cartel Office had already given its approval in July. Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.
