The president of ChileCarne, Juan Carlos Domínguez, participated in the public-private delegation that accompanied the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Francesco Venezian, on an agenda through China and Vietnam, aimed at strengthening ties with the economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), advancing in sanitary matters and opening new opportunities for Chilean exports.
Together with representatives from Frutas de Chile and Faenacar, Domínguez was part of an intense agenda that allowed them to address strategic issues for the agricultural export sector and strengthen joint work between the public and private sectors in markets of growing importance for Chile.
The tour began in Dalian, China, where the delegation participated in the APEC Customs-Business Dialogue 2026, an event that brought together authorities and representatives of the private sector to address challenges related to food security, trade facilitation and the strengthening of supply chains.
The agenda then continued in Hangzhou, China, with the Chilean delegation’s participation in the 11th APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting, alongside ministers and high-ranking officials from Asia-Pacific economies. During the meeting, the importance of moving towards a more productive, modern, competitive, and globally open agriculture was emphasized, as well as the contribution of innovation, digital agriculture, and artificial intelligence to optimize resource use, increase productivity, manage risks, and access new markets.
The agenda in China also included a day of meetings and visits to companies and supermarket chains in Hangzhou, where the delegation was able to learn firsthand about the requirements and opportunities that the Chinese market offers for Chilean agri-food products.
The tour of various points of sale allowed for discussions on product quality, packaging, and formats, as well as an understanding of the interest in Chilean products. These activities complemented the meetings held throughout the week and provided a deeper understanding of the trends and demands of one of the main markets for Chilean exports.
Later, the delegation, which included the president of ChileCarne, continued its agenda in Vietnam with activities aimed at strengthening agricultural, scientific, and technological cooperation between the two countries. A highlight was the visit to the Vietnam National Agricultural University, where they learned about the work being done in areas such as biotechnology, smart agriculture, and climate change adaptation.
The event also provided an opportunity to explore scientific and academic cooperation, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange, with a focus on innovation, agricultural health, and the development of specialized human capital. In 2026, Chile and Vietnam will commemorate 55 years of diplomatic relations, a bond that continues to strengthen through cooperation and the development of new technologies for the agricultural sector.
One of the highlights of the visit was the meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Nguyen Hoang Hiep. They discussed various matters of interest to the Chilean agricultural export sector, including efforts to advance sanitary access to the Vietnamese market for Chilean pork and chicken, a matter of particular importance to ChileCarne.
The progress of these talks represents an opportunity to continue expanding the presence of Chilean animal proteins in Southeast Asia and to advance towards better access conditions for the sector in a market with significant potential.
Juan Carlos Domínguez’s participation allowed ChileCarne to be a direct part of a strategic agenda for the development of Chilean agri-food exports and to support the talks aimed at strengthening trade and sanitary ties with relevant Asian markets.
Following the activities carried out in China and Vietnam, the Undersecretary of Agriculture continued his agenda towards Indonesia, while the president of ChileCarne returned to Chile after participating in the activities planned in both countries.
For ChileCarne, the work carried out during this agenda is especially relevant, considering the ongoing efforts to advance in opening new markets and continue strengthening the international presence of Chilean meats.
In an increasingly competitive international environment, public-private collaboration and an active presence in the markets are essential to continue generating opportunities for the sector and strengthening Chile’s position as a reliable food supplier in the world.
