INTERPORC: Leadership, cohesion and global projection of Spanish pork

The Interprofessional Agri-food Organization for White Pigs ( INTERPORC ), the largest interprofessional organization in the livestock sector in Spain, plays a key role in structuring the white pig sector, the most important in Spanish livestock farming, accounting for 44% of final livestock production and 16.1% of final agricultural production. Furthermore, it represents approximately 9.5% of industrial GDP and generates a turnover exceeding €25.8 billion annually.

Its impact on employment is equally relevant, with more than 415,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, and a strong presence in rural areas, where it helps to retain population and revitalize the territory.

INTERPORC comprises 11 organizations that represent approximately 90% of the sector and cover the entire value chain, from farms to processing and marketing. This representativeness allows it to develop a common strategy and act as a single point of contact with government agencies, markets, and the public.

The result of this sectoral cohesion lies in a leadership that is not explained solely by volume, but by a model based on professionalization, innovation, and compliance with the most demanding standards in animal health, traceability, and welfare. These conditions have led the Spanish pork industry to become the leading producer in the European Union, the third largest in the world, and one of the main international exporters, with a total of 2.74 million tons and more than 8.4 billion euros.

Based on this foundation, the interprofessional organization maintains a strategy based on three main pillars: ongoing support for its presence in international markets, communication to convey the reality of the sector, and the development of projects related to sustainability, innovation, and animal health.

In a global environment marked by geopolitical uncertainty and trade tensions, this strategy involves constant adaptation to maintain and strengthen the confidence of consumers and international health authorities in the Spanish pork model.

To achieve this, INTERPORC maintains continuous activity that reflects its dynamic role and capacity for action. In the first months of 2026 alone, the interprofessional organization participated in or collaborated on events and initiatives such as Alimentaria, FITUR, and Madrid Fusión, both domestically and internationally, such as FHA Singapore, one of the leading events for the sector in Asia. There, it strengthened the presence of Spanish pork and its positioning in strategic markets, in addition to fostering business contacts with international operators.

These initiatives are complemented by strategic agreements such as those reached with the National Veterinary Corps Association, to strengthen the training and scientific base of the sector; with the Spanish Olympic Committee, to promote balanced eating habits; or with the MasterChef Challenge program, linked to training in gastronomy.

This series of actions illustrates the reality that INTERPORC’s activity never stops. Its role is not limited to representing the sector, but it constantly promotes initiatives that strengthen its competitiveness, image, and global positioning, always defending the interests of the entire supply chain.
