117 ASF cases in Germany

ASF cases in Germany have raised to 117 since the last week, with a wild boar carcass recently discovered in Saxony, 60 km away from the first area contaminated with the virus. Most probably, the animal has crossed the border river Neisse to get into Germany. Several cases were of wild boars found dead were reported in the last few weeks on the Polish side. At the moment, the German authorities are working on the construction of a permanent fence along the border.
Up to date 117 ASF cases have been confirmed in Germany, all of them in wild boars. As a result, the biggest pork producer in the EU has seen exports to third-markets banned, the biggest losses coming from the restrictions applied by countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines etc. Currently, most of the German pork has been re-routed to markets in the EU.
