23 tonnes of smoked sausages recalled due to misbranding
23.2 tonnes of ready-to-eat cheddar smoked sausage produced by J Bar B Foods are recalled from the market due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, informs the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The product contains milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. The items were produced on January 19 and shipped to retail locations in Texas. The problem was discovered when a retail store notified the company of an incorrect label. The establishment investigated and determined that the incorrect label was applied to the product.
Until now, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products but FSIS classified this incident as a high-class alert. Inspectors are concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
