35% increase in Brazilian pork exports in April
In April, Brazilian pork exports have increased by 35.1% compared with the same month last year to reach a total volume of 98,300 tonnes, worth $232.3 million (+40.6%), says data released by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). The growth in exports was driven by increased demand from countries located in Asia, Africa and South America.
More than half of the volumes exported in April were shipped to mainland China (51,500 tonnes), representing an increase of 50.5% in annual comparison. The figure does not take into consideration pork exports to Hong Kong, 14,600 tonnes (+4.9%). "In addition to the significant sales to the Chinese market, we have observed an increase in exports to other regions of the globe, including markets neighboring Brazil," said in a note ABPA President Ricardo Santin, referring to a surge in shipments to countries such as Chile (+ 130.9%) and Argentina (+ 84.3%).
For the first four months of this year, Brazilian pork exports have advanced 25.29% from the same period last year, to reach 351,800 tonnes, worth $826.4 million (+27.1%). According to Mr. Santin, good results obtain in external markets are helping producers in Brazil to "reduce losses generated by strong pressure of internal production costs".
