ABPA: Pork exports grew 19.6 percent in January

In revenue, sector sales reached US$ 212.4 million this year, a performance 32.1% higher than that registered in January last year, with US$ 160.7 million.

Among the main destinations for pork exports, China remains in the lead, with 41.6 thousand tons, a volume 32.5% higher than that registered in the same period of 2022, with 31.4 thousand tons. Other highlights were Hong Kong, with 7.1 thousand tons (+5.5%), Chile, with 6.5 thousand tons (+53%) and Singapore, with 4.7 thousand tons (+37.7%).

"The increases in shipments to China and Hong Kong attest to the continued demand for Brazilian products in the largest pork consumer market on the planet, maintaining the behavior seen in the second half of 2022, and which should continue in 2023. At the same time , sales to Chile, which are already on the rise, should gain even more strength throughout the year, with the recent recognition, by the Chilean authorities, of Rio Grande do Sul as a foot-and-mouth free area without vaccination. There is also expectation about the effect of Brazilian pork sales to Mexico and the consolidation of the Canadian market, two of the most important import markets for animal protein in the world, which were opened recently", evaluates Luís Rua, director of markets at ABPA.
