ABPA urges the Brazilian government to take action in BRF's case
ABPA states that the meat sector generates 4.1 million direct and indirect jobs in Brazil and only in BRF, there are more than 100 thousand direct jobs. Poultry also has one of the most important contributions to the positive balance of the trade balance - surpassing US $7 billion in foreign exchange.
ABPA says the Brazilian Government needs and should clarify the matter quickly. "The country cannot give in to the threats that put thousands of jobs and companies in our industry at risk. We are long-time partners in the European Union, where we have exported more than 5 million tonnes of chicken meat in the last 10 years. There was never any record of public health problems related to Brazilian meat. There are, therefore, no concrete reasons to impose embargoes on any company in our industry, especially dealing with past events that have already been corrected," ABPA's statement read.
