Argentina sends its first beef shipment to Japan

The Argentine Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the country has shipped 200 kilograms of beef to Japan and that, in the next few days, another batch of 10 tons of meat will also be launched to this market. The Argentinian producers will test in Japan also 13 different beef cuts.

"In May we promised that this month, we would start shipping Argentine meat to Japan and we will keep our word," said the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Guillermo Bernaudo. "This marks a before and after in the commercial link between both nations, we know that our exchanges can be deepened and diversified, and we hope to continue advancing so that our commercial link grows."

Furthermore, the authorities said that several sheep meat producers from Patagonia have also received authorization to export their lamb products to Japan.

In order to celebrate the new trade deals, the Argentine embassy in Tokyo will hold an event to promote and launch the Argentine beef on August 1, together with Marubeni, the importing company.

In 2017, Japan's imports of boneless beef (fresh, chilled and frozen) have exceeded $3.1 billion.

The Argentine Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement that Japan represents a great opportunity for the exports of Argentina, seeing that the country is one of the important food importers in the world.

Analysts expect Argentina's beef exports to reach 435,000 tons by the end of 2018, placing the country on the seventh spot among the world's largest beef exporters, TheBubble reports.
