Argentina to expand its meat exports to China

Under the new agreement, Argentina will be able to exports to China also chilled and frozen beef with and without bone and sheep and goat meat from Patagonia, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Agroindustry from Argentina.

"It is a great new step in our strategy of commercial insertion in the world, and especially in the Asian markets, China is for us a fundamental partner, and in that bond that has been strengthening day by day, the approval of income for our products is something that tells us that we are on the right track, and that is why we have to celebrate it, "said Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie.

Today Argentina is among the top 10 world exporters of meat and it occupies the third spot amongst the world's largest beef exporters after Australia and Brazil, beef being one of its main exports. In the last two years, exports of bovine meat increased by 110 thousand tons (res with bone). During 2017, the sales of this product to China generated a total income of 405 million dollars. Furthermore, in the same year, in November alone, beef exports reached in value $1.17 billion.

"Now it is the turn of the refrigerators to develop the market and incorporate value so that the excellent meat of our producers reaches the Chinese consumer in the most profitable way for our country," said Diego Guelar, the Argentine ambassador in China, according to infobae.

"The Chinese market has no ceiling in sight," analysts say. Furthermore, according to infobae, the latest OECD report estimates that demand for meat from the Asian giant will continue to grow steadily over the next decade.

In addition, Argentina exported the largest quantities of beef to China, nearly 86.5 thousand tons worth $360 million, a level reached just in November 2017, according to the data provided by IPCVA.
