Avian flu in Israel

Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the north region of the country. According to the report, the H5N8 serotype virus was identified in a broiler farm that has 35,000 birds. The farm is divided into four pens. Morbidity and mortality occurred in half a divided pen reaching chickens.

Also according to the released report, the farm is located near fish tanks, which receives waterfowl at this time of year, in addition to being a migratory route for other birds. The Israeli ministry said the epidemiological investigation is ongoing. The last case of H5N8 avian flu was reported in January when the virus was discovered on an eagle. The last time he was diagnosed on a commercial farm was in the north of the country, in April 2019, on a turkey farm.
