Big scandal in the UK about foreign meat sold as British product
Russel Hume one of the biggest meat suppliers from the UK suspected to be sold foreign meat as a British product in restaurants and hotels across the country, informs Daily Mail. Last month, the company was ordered to halt all deliveries after being suspected of "serious non-compliance" with food regulation in the kingdom.
Russel Hume is the official supplier of beef, chicken, pork, lamb and steak cuts to the Wetherspoon pub chain, Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, Hilton hotels, Greene King pubs, schools and care homes. following an inspection from Food Standard Agency, some concerns about ‘inaccurate’ use-by dates on products have arisen. The investigation took a new turn as one of the company's worker accused the company of falsely declaring foreign meat to be British to make more money.
"Imported beef is a third less in price than British beef so there’s an opportunity to make 30% more profit. It’s what the industry does and has been doing for a long time", said the source on an ITV interview.
According to his saying, the meat came from Botswana, Namibia and Australia before it was labelled as a British product.
