Brazil: Exports of poultry genetic material grow 10.1 percent in 2024

Brazilian exports of genetic material (including chicks and fertile eggs) totaled 2,646 thousand tons in February this year, reports the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The number exceeds the total exported in the same period last year by 13.8%, with 2,325 thousand tons.

Brazil: Exports of poultry genetic material grow 10.1 percent in 2024

Revenue generated from February exports reached US$19.4 million, a balance 7.4% lower than the total made in the same period in 2023, with US$20.9 million.

In the year, the accumulated increase reaches 10.1%, with 5,116 thousand tons exported in the first two months of this year, against 4,646 thousand tons in the same period last year. In revenue, there was a decline of 8.2%, with US$38.7 million in the first two months of this year, against US$42.2 million in 2023.

The main destination for poultry exports, Mexico imported 1,656 thousand tons in the first two months of this year, a volume 48.8% lower than the total shipped in the same period last year. In a different movement, sales to South Africa totaled 1,490 thousand tons (there were no shipments in 2023), followed by Senegal, with 1,103 thousand tons (+75%), Paraguay, with 459 tons (+14%) and Venezuela, with 101 tons (+0.2%).

"The search by African nations for Brazilian poultry genetics has grown, whether to replace losses due to health issues or even to build reliable genetic supply alternatives", analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
