Brazil: Pork shipments grow 7.8 percent in April
Revenue obtained from exports for the month reached US$241.8 million, a balance 3.8% lower compared to the same period in 2023, with US$251.3 million.
Considering the first four months of this year, pork exports totaled 402.1 thousand tons, a number 6% higher than the accumulated figure between January and April of last year, with 379.4 thousand tons. With these shipments, revenue recorded in the same comparative period reached US$839.6 million, 6.5% lower than the same period last year, with US$897.7 million.
In the ranking of the largest destinations, China remains in the lead, with 21.5 thousand tons imported in April (-35.9%), followed by the Philippines, with 16.7 thousand tons (+66.5%), Hong Kong, with 9.1 thousand tons (-34.7%), Singapore, with 8.1 thousand tons (+3%), Chile, with 7.3 thousand tons (+22.7%), Japan, with 7 thousand tons (+82.4%) and Vietnam, with 5.3 thousand tons (+99.1%).
"International demand has positively influenced prices throughout this year, which saw a significant recovery between January and April. At the same time, the good pace of exports should be maintained, establishing a level of shipments above 100 thousand tons", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
Santa Catarina remains the largest Brazilian exporter of pork, with 62 thousand tons shipped in April (+9.1%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 21.6 thousand tons (-7.5%), Paraná, with 17.1 thousand tons (+15.4%), Mato Grosso, with 4 thousand tons (+62.5%), and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 2.3 thousand tons (+2.2%).
"There is an increase in the pork exports from Brazil, which now reach other high-value-added markets more significantly, such as Japan and other Asian nations. Also noteworthy is the growing volumes shipped to the Americas, especially the United States, Puerto Rico and Chile, to some extent the result of new qualifications gained by the sector. In turn, even more positive expectations in the coming months in the Philippines, which recently accepted Brazil's pre-listing system. This movement towards diversifying destinations should continue throughout this year", analyzes ABPA's markets director, Luís Rua.
