Brazil exported around 300 thousand tons of beef in August
This was the second-highest monthly volume in the historical series, behind only July of this year, when Brazil shipped 313,600 tons. Revenue reached US$1.60 billion, a 49.8% increase compared to the US$1.07 billion recorded in the previous year.
The data comes from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), compiled by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), which brings together 46 companies responsible for 98% of the beef exported by Brazil and works to defend, promote and expand the international market for the product.
China maintained its lead in purchases in August, with 161,000 tons (53.7% of the total), generating US$894 million, an increase of 48.1% compared to August 2024. Russia (14,200 t; US$65 million), Mexico (13,300 t; US$75.4 million), Chile (12,000 t; US$67.6 million) and the European Union (11,200 t; US$93.2 million) completed the top five destinations.
The United States recorded a significant decline in the month, with 9.3 thousand tons shipped (US$ 64.4 million), a 51.1% drop compared to August 2024 (19.1 thousand tons). Despite the slowdown, the country remains the second main destination year-to-date.
From January to August, the US imported 209,100 tons (US$1.22 billion), a 71.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 121,000 tons (US$725 million) were shipped. This figure is already approaching the total of 229,000 tons exported throughout last year, reinforcing the importance of the US market and the need to fully resume trade relations given the impact of the tariff hike.
In the same period, Brazil exported 2.08 million tons of beef, a 15% increase compared to the 1.81 million tons in the same period in 2024. Revenue reached US$10.51 billion, an increase of 32.9% compared to the US$7.91 billion recorded in the previous year.
China remains Brazil's largest trading partner this year, with 962.8 thousand tons and US$5.0 billion in revenue, followed by the United States (209.1 thousand t; US$1.22 billion), Chile (81.3 thousand t; US$441.0 million), Mexico (80.9 thousand t; US$439.7 million) and Russia (74.2 thousand t; US$317.5 million).
Strategic markets showed significant growth in the year to date: Mexico (+198%), the United States (+71.5%), the European Union (+37.8%), Russia (+31%), China (+21%), and Chile (+18.5%). In August, in addition to strong Mexican demand, growth in the European Union (+41.0%) and Russia (+57.7%) stood out.
According to Abiec, August's results reinforce the competitiveness of Brazilian beef and the joint efforts of the production chain to expand its global presence. Despite fluctuations in some markets, such as the US, the overall outlook remains positive, with prospects for new commercial opportunities in the second half of the year.
