Brazilian pork sector reports higher revenue in July

Brazilian pork exports reached 102,700 tonnes in July, up 2.2% year-on-year, while sales revenue rose 21.3% to $246.4 million, driven by the transfer of production costs, according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
In the accumulated result for the year, the scenario was also positive. Pork shipments –considering fresh and processed products– advanced 14.76% until July, to 665,400 tonnes. As a result, export revenue for the first seven months of the year reached $1.596 billion, up 24.8% from the same period of 2020. "The significant increase in export revenue signals, among other points, the transfer of strong increases in production costs that reach the international market, as well as in the domestic market," explained Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
China is the main market for Brazilian pork, with 348,400 tonnes received in the first 7 months of 2021, up 23.5% from a year ago. It is followed by Chile (37,700 tonnes), Uruguay (25,000 tonnes), Angola (18,200 tonnes), Argentina (16,200 tonnes) and the Philippines (13,500 tonnes).
