Brazilian poultry sector expects a $1B increase in exports

Brazil's participation at Gulfood was initially seen as a driver that might add $450 million in food exports for the next 12 months but it has evolved into something much bigger. Only in poultry, expectations for the sector's performance in 2022 are close to $1 billion, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). Agribusinesses that export poultry should carry out deals that should exceed $1 billion, based on the negotiations carried out during Gulfood 2022, in an action led by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), in partnership with the Agency Brazilian Association for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil). Closed last Thursday (17th) in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Gulfood is the largest halal food fair on the planet.

During the five days of the event alone, the 20 producing and exporting agro-industries associated with ABPA, which were at the fair, consolidated more than US$ 50 million in sales to clients from Middle Eastern nations and other parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, who participated in the fair, the Association informed in a press release.
In addition to business promotion, the ABPA & ApexBrasil partnership also focused on positioning the image of Brazilian animal protein, along two strategic lines: the dissemination of information and sectorial attributes and the tasting of Brazilian products that carry the Brazilian Chicken brands, Brazilian Egg, Brazilian Breeders and Brazilian Duck.

In this sense, the entity distributed promotional materials through QRCode – respecting protection protocols against Covid-19 – which highlight data on the Brazilian productive profile, the health status and sustainable characteristics of production, in addition to company contacts. exporters associated with ABPA.

In addition, a large gastronomic area was installed at the event. On the menu were omelets and shawarma, a typical Islamic dish, made with cuts of chicken and duck meat (a novelty of the ABPA action this year). In all, more than 6,000 shawarmas and 1,000 omelets were served at the event to the more than 2,800 customers, potential buyers, stakeholders and authorities who visited the poultry space at the event.

"Among the international fairs, Gulfood was the only one to follow the calendar without interruptions, thanks to a successful protocol implemented and respected by all exhibitors. This year, there was an atmosphere of strong resumption of participation in the Dubai event, which is evidenced by the number of businesses and the service of dishes in our gastronomic area. These are important results at a time when producers are looking to expand the Brazilian sector's international operations as a way of overcoming the challenges posed by high production costs,” says ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
