Bulgaria increase its poultry production by 10%
Bulgaria increased its poultry production last year by 10.5%, reducing the volumes of products imported from other countries, according to Novinite news agency. 2018 was a record year for poultry production in the EU, with 15.2 million tonnes of poultry meat reported at the end of the year.
Bulgaria is one of the small producers of poultry in the EU, with only 0.76% of the total EU poultry meat production. In 2018, around 70% of poultry production in the EU was produced in only six Member States: most in Poland (16.8%), followed by the United Kingdom (12.9%), France (11, 4%), Spain (10.7%), Germany (10.4%) and Italy (8.5%).
Bulgaria reported total production of 114,880 tonnes of poultry, up by 11,000 tonnes compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the country is one of the largest producers and exporters of duck meat in Europe.
South East Europe was the area where most of the countries reported an increase in poultry production last year: Poland (2.5 million tonnes), Hungary (525,000 tonnes) and Romania (452,000 tonnes, up by 11% compared with the year before).
