China Implements new measures for ASF Management

China looks to stop illegal pig transportation from one infected area with another and announce new measures for ASF Management. Since the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the Chinese Mainland in August 2018, hog transportation in some domestic districts in this country, especially through illegal ways, has been considered as a severe threat to speed up the spread of ASF. Aiming at solving this problem, on 2 June, the first joint meeting on preventing and controlling ASF and other major animal diseases in the eastern region was held in Jinan city, Shandong Province (located in northeastern China). During this meeting, a total of six provinces, including Shandong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Henan, co-signed the Framework Agreement on Joint Prevention and Control of African Swine Fever and other Major Animal Diseases in the Eastern Region, which means the hog management in Eastern Region of China would usher in a new stage on zonal prevention and control, informs Beef to China.
Since February 2021, China has reported ASF outbreaks in six provinces and in Hong Kong. Although officials are forecasting a full recovery of hog inventory for this year, foreign analysts are talking about another decrease of 20% in the Chinese pig herd.
