China's meat imports are up by 75%
During the first six months of this year, China's meat imports have reached a volume of 4, 75 million tonnes, 75.3% larger than a year ago. In terms of value, meat imports have doubled, reaching $15.6 billion.
Pig meat and pork products imports have increased by 140%, accounting for 2.1 million tonnes, while beef imports have grown by 43% (997,000 tonnes), according to data offered by the Chinese General Administration of Customs. In June, the volume of meat imported by China has reached 896,000 tonnes (+ 9.8%), with a total value of $2.6 billion. The EU was the main supplier of pork in the Chinese market, followed by Brazil and the US.
