China's meat imports in September, up 63%

Chinese imports of meat and offal totalled 830,000 tonnes in September this year, a volume 63% higher than that acquired in the same month of the previous year, reported the China Customs Department (GAAC). Expenditure on imports of the product increased by 40.5%, reaching $ 2.325 billion in the month. In the first nine months of the year, the Asian country imported 7.41 million tonnes of meat and offal.
Pork meat imports totalled 380,000 tonnes in September, a volume 121.6% higher than that purchased in the same month last year. In value, the increase was 146.6%, to $ 924.5 million. In the accumulated result for the year, the Asian country imported 3.29 million tonnes of pork.

In beef, the Asian country imported 180 thousand tons in September, an increase of 18.9% in the annual comparison. The amount disbursed with the product was 1% lower, at $ 777.08 million. From January to September this year, China bought 1.57 million tonnes of beef from abroad.
